Reflectix Insulation in North Hollywood, CA

Reflectix Insulation in North Hollywood, CA | Even Air Insulation

We provide independent Reflectix installation and repair across North Hollywood, and the honest version of this service is: Reflectix only works here when it’s installed with a real air gap and backed by actual R-value. Most NoHo attics we see were built before air conditioning was common, so a roll of bubble foil stapled flat to the roof deck does more harm than good. We install it correctly, pair it with mass insulation where the attic needs it, and we’re not tied to the manufacturer. Call (855) 362-0195 for a straight answer on whether Reflectix fits your attic.

Our crew handles Reflectix sales & service the way it should be done in a Valley climate: as part of a system, not a miracle product. Nelson Quirarte, our owner, studied building construction technology at LATTC and spent nearly two decades doing insulation work across the L.A. basin before founding Even Air. He’d rather explain why a vented air space matters than sell you a roll and walk away.

We cover all of North Hollywood service area including 91601, 91602, 91605, 91606, 91615, 91616, and 91618.

Why North Hollywood Residents Choose Us for Reflectix Service

Reflectix is a product we know well, and we know where it belongs in a North Hollywood attic. The foil has real value as a radiant barrier when installed with a gap and proper venting, but the box instructions don’t account for a 1940s bungalow with a shallow roof pitch and no existing insulation. That’s where we come in.

We’re a multi-method insulation contractor carrying eight manufacturer lines: Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, and GreenFiber. Reflectix isn’t in that roster because it’s not a primary insulation material. It’s a radiant barrier and air-space product we use selectively, alongside the materials that actually hold R-value. When you call us about Reflectix, we’ll tell you if it’s the right call for your attic or if your money goes further somewhere else. That’s the difference between a contractor who stocks one answer and one who prescribes from a full material set.

Nelson grew up in Koreatown and has spent enough hours in Valley attics — including Reflectix service in Studio City and nearby neighborhoods — to know that the right fix isn’t always the one in the box. His phrase for the good outcomes is simple: “The right insulation doesn’t announce itself, you just stop noticing the problem.”

Common Reflectix Insulation Problems We Solve in North Hollywood

  • Foil stapled tight to the roof deck with no air gap. This is the most common failure. Reflectix needs space between the foil and the roof sheathing to reflect heat instead of conducting it. In a North Hollywood attic that hits 140°F or higher in August, tight-stapled foil becomes a heat conductor. Homeowners call us because the attic got hotter after they “insulated.” We remove it, build a gap, and reinstall correctly.
  • Non-perforated Reflectix trapping moisture in vented attics. Valley heat cycles pull moisture up from the house. When a non-perforated roll is stapled across a vented attic, that moisture and dust collect on the foil surface. The foil dulls, then delaminates. We see this regularly in 91601 and 91602 bungalows where someone followed the DIY path.
  • Barrier laid over blown fiberglass or jammed into eaves. The foil must go up against the rafters, not across the top of existing insulation. When it’s draped over blown cellulose or fiberglass, it blocks the air movement that makes a radiant barrier work. Even worse: when it’s shoved into the eave, it chokes off soffit airflow and the attic cooks.
  • Bubble-core Reflectix crushed under storage. If you’re using the attic for boxes, plywood, or holiday storage, flat-laid Reflectix gets compressed. Crushed bubble core means no reflective air space, which means the R-value drops to nearly nothing. We flag this in every attic where we see storage decking.
  • Reflectix used as a substitute for R-value. This is the one a real North Hollywood contractor has to say out loud. Reflectix is not insulation in the R-value sense. If a NoHo attic needs R-38 or R-49 to hold back a 105°F summer day, foil alone doesn’t get you there. We top up the barrier with blown-in insulation, air seal the top plates, and fix the venting. The barrier complements the system, it doesn’t replace it.

Reflectix Service in North Hollywood: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s the thing about North Hollywood that most Reflectix advice misses: the housing stock predates the product by half a century. The classic NoHo job is a 1940s bungalow off the Arts District with a low-pitch roof and a shallow, broiling attic that was never insulated. These homes were built before air conditioning was standard and before Title 24 energy codes existed. The attics are tight, the roof decks are close, and the summer heat in the San Fernando Valley pushes roof deck temperatures well above ambient outside air.

That means a Reflectix radiant barrier installed the way the box suggests, stapled flat to the rafters, will fail here in a way it wouldn’t in a coastal city with deep attics and cool air. The foil needs a real air gap, and almost none of these old NoHo attics have the vertical space to spare. We build the gap with custom spacers or furring strips, restore the soffit baffles, and then add blown insulation over the barrier to hit actual code-level R-values. The barrier handles the radiant heat, the mass insulation handles the conductive heat, and the venting handles the moisture. None of it works alone.

We’ve seen this play out on a job off the NoHo Arts District and on Reflectix in Universal City: a 1940s bungalow where the previous owner stapled Reflectix bubble foil tight to the rafters. Underneath, paper-faced batts had collapsed from years of heat. An abandoned attic fan was dumping hot air back into the space instead of exhausting it. We pulled the failed batts, air-sealed the top plates, built a proper air space for fresh Reflectix radiant barrier, restored the soffit baffles, and topped up with blown insulation. The attic went from an oven to a usable work space, and the back bedrooms stopped baking by mid-afternoon.

Reflectix Models & Products We Service in North Hollywood

We work with the full Reflectix product line that shows up in North Hollywood attics and garages:

  • Reflectix Double Reflective Insulation Roll (bubble-core foil, the hardware-store staple for DIY attic staple-up)
  • Reflectix Radiant Barrier Attic Foil (perforated and non-perforated rolls, each with different venting implications)
  • Reflectix Reflective Foam Core Insulation (R-8 foil-faced foam board, used for garage doors and rim joists)
  • Reflectix duct and HVAC wrap rolls (often repurposed as attic decking barrier by homeowners)

When we install, we use genuine Reflectix rolls and boards where the product is specified. We pair them with quality air-sealing materials and baffles rather than cheap substitutes that delaminate within a season or two. If an attic needs R-38 or R-49, we add the mass insulation over the barrier. We don’t sell foil as a cure-all, because it isn’t one.

Reflectix Service Pricing in North Hollywood

Reflectix in Burbank and North Hollywood share similar pricing, which depends on the attic size, the roof pitch, and whether the job is a fresh install or a correction of a failed DIY attempt. A straightforward radiant barrier install on a small bungalow attic typically runs lower than a full correction job that involves removing failed batts, air-sealing, building an air gap, and topping up with blown insulation. The latter is more common in 91601 and 91602, where the homes are older and the attics are cramped.

What’s included in a free estimate: we inspect the attic from top plates to ridge, measure the existing insulation depth, check venting and baffles, and tell you honestly whether Reflectix is the right product for your roof. If it isn’t, we’ll say so and recommend what is. Call (855) 362-0195 and we’ll schedule a walkthrough. Estimates are free, and the answer you get will be straight.
